There are many actions we can take that can reduce our impact (and even turn it into a positive one) on the environment.
Change starts with you. And in order to motivate you all, we would like to share with you some of the initiatives that have been carried out throughout this year in Aernnova Group:
1. The correct management of waste is an important factor in preventing climate change, because if it is not properly treated, this results in the production of CO2 and also damage our environment.
In July 2022 Hamble Aerostructures tasked their on-site contractors with a beach clean-up exercise to improve the visual aesthetic of the popular landscape adjacent to the Hamble site.
Hamble Aerostructures is promisingly located next to Southampton Waters; a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the main shipping lane out of Southampton, but also a popular area for yachtsman, tourists and local walkers.
The exercise was aimed at collecting all disposed litter from the beach area itself, the beach and parking verges and the areas forming the perimeter of the Hamble Aerostructures Site.
30 kg’s of waste were collected from the shores, which equalled to a 50/50 split between recyclable and general waste.
The Hamble Aerostructures site are looking to implement annual activities of a similar nature to promote community best practice.
2.Printing on paper can involve cutting down trees for its manufacture, and these play an important role in absorbing CO2 and fight climate changes.
Our company in Toledo, Aeronáutica y Automoción, seeded the number of trees equivalent to the number of trees consumed the previous year. In this way, the environmental impact and carbon footprint of the paper prints made was offset.
The activity took place on the second Saturday in March and all staff were invited to attend, accompanied by their families. The trees were seeded with the help of the children who attended, who placed a name tag on each tree.
The experience has been so enriching that it will be repeated in 2023 and, once again, workers and their families will be invited.
3. Sustainable mobility plays an important role in the fight against climate change, particularly in the daily commute to work.
COASA, our company located in Galicia, is aware of this and for this reason, has provided 12 preferential parking spaces for vehicles with a minimum of 3 occupants and has launched an awareness campaign to promote carpooling. Moreover, according to statistics, the risk of suffering a traffic accident is lower when sharing a car.
In this line, bicycle racks and electric chargers for bicycles have also been installed.
4. The offset of 5,025 kg CO2 by contributing 1,681kg of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to airlines in 2022 is also worth highlighting.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel reduces emissions by 80% over the life cycle of the fuel and is produced in a clean way using renewable sources such as carbon from biomass, used cooking oil, or forestry waste to replace fossil fuels. It is a fuel that can be blended with fossil fuel and does not require any structural changes to the aircraft. With these initiatives, we are contributing not only to reducing emissions, but also to increasing the demand for SAF to expand its use, advancing the development of more sustainable aviation.
