Aernnova is committed, and this is expressed in its Code of Ethics and Policies, to the fight against climate change and the reduction of the environmental impact of our activities and products throughout their life cycle. This commitment is aligned with the European Union’s Green Deal for 2030, which aims to achieve a drastic reduction in emissions and reach climate neutrality by 2050, and with environmental objectives in other territorial areas, as well as with the expectations of our shareholders, customers and society in general.
One of the main environmental impacts and sources of CO2 emissions of our activity is energy consumption, which includes electricity and other energy sources such as fuels (natural gas, propane, diesel, etc.). We must act on it to reduce Aernnova’s environmental footprint. Moreover, in the current times of tension and uncertainty in the energy markets and with the increasingly demanding regulations on energy efficiency, this has become a very relevant risk and consequently, a priority.
Aernnova is a founding partner of Clean Aviation, which is the joint initiative of the public sector with industry, universities and research centers to respond to the aforementioned European objectives, and has contributed and contributes significantly through the technological development of new technologies and materials to make sustainable aviation possible.
Regarding energy consumption in our processes and activities, at Aernnova we have been implementing environmental improvement actions in a historical manner since it was certified according to the UNE-EN ISO 14001 standard in 2004. And now, in order to respond to our commitment with greater exigency and to reduce energy consumption and be more efficient in our production plants and offices, the Energy Efficiency Project has been launched, which includes measures among which we highlight:
Improving process efficiency by replacing lighting with more efficient lighting and optimizing air conditioning-heating systems and other energy-demanding industrial processes.
The extension of energy monitoring and management systems. These tools make it possible to monitor consumption, detect inefficiencies and consequently reduce the basic consumption of our facilities.
The awareness and involvement of all employees in the responsible use of energy through various awareness and training campaigns. Aernnova’s employees hold the key to cultural change in order to achieve a more energy efficient company.
Additionally, the use of renewable energies will be promoted through the installation of photovoltaic panels for self-consumption in those plants where it is more convenient, the percentage of renewable energy in the energy we purchase will be increased and electric vehicle chargers will be installed in parking lots to promote sustainable mobility.
Small actions make big changes, and we are all an important part of developing this culture of energy saving. To this end, Aernnova has devoloped the Decalogue of Energy Responsibility which must be taken into account and promoted:
1
Turn off all electronic devices (screen, computer, printers, etc.) after work.
2
When leaving any room, turn off the lights, air conditioning or heating, if possible, to avoid wasting energy. Notify the person in charge when you notice any inefficient energy consumption.
3
Turn the screen off if you are not at your desk. Make sure your screen is not facing the window. The best position for the screen is perpendicular to the light source. Also keep in mind that black is the most efficient screen saver.
4
Join the paperless community! Avoid printing on paper as much as possible.
5
Sunlight is free. Make the most of it by keeping window curtains open and turning off lights.
6
Use cold water instead of hot water whenever possible. Notify the person in charge when you notice any leaks or malfunctions.
7
Air circulation is important, make sure it is done correctly. Air when the air conditioning system is off. This is the best way to avoid wasting energy.
8
The air conditioning system should be used taking into account that energy saving is essential. It is recommended not to program the air conditioning system above 19º C in winter, and below 27º C in summer. In Spain, these conditions are mandatory based on RDL 14/2022. Adjust your clothing to the room temperature as much as possible.
9
Keep the air conditioning system in an adequate way and the hot and cold air outlets clear. Avoid having furniture or objects obstructing them.
10
Optimize the use of freezers by reviewing material handling procedures. Open them and keep them open as little as possible.
All these Energy Efficiency actions are an opportunity to achieve a common purpose, a more sustainable energy company for a more sustainable world.
