Aerometallic Tarazona

We continue our journey through the history of the companies of Aernnova Group talking about Aerometallic Tarazona, our great machining and surface treatment company

Getting to Know

Juan Pedro Labat – Director Aerometallic Tarazona

15th September 2022

Aerometallic Tarazona is a company born from the process of merger by absorption and change of name of NMF Europa and Aeromac Mecanizados Aeronáuticos.

Aeromac was founded in 1998 as a result of a need of Gamesa Aeronáutica for large machining operations for the assembly of the wings of the E-145 model of the Embraer customer. During the first years, surface treatments were carried out in England, until an agreement was reached with NMF Canada to set up in front of Aeromac.

As a consequence of certain economic difficulties of NMF, Gamesa acquired it in 2003 and it became managed by the same management team.

Until 2017 they were two different legal entities, it was then when the workers of both companies were unified into a single workforce to form the current company, Aerometallic Tarazona, SA.

We have a production area of 15,000 m2 between the two plants.

This video shows the growth of the company.

We are in the city of Tarazona, Zaragoza, in the Autonomous Community of Aragon, capital of the region of Tarazona and Moncayo. It is located at the western end of the province of Zaragoza and is about 100 km from cities such as Soria, Logroño, Pamplona and Zaragoza. Vitoria is a little farther, 200 km away.

Aerometallic Tarazona has two businesses, the first one is the machining and treatment of elementary aluminum parts up to 15m long, and the second one is the surface treatment of parts machined by other European machiners up to 23m, among which we have to highlight Airbus Nantes, ASCO and Dassault.

It should be noted that in terms of added value, 70% corresponds to the second of our businesses. Surface treatments only.

Some interesting data

1,500 active references, of which 650 are sold each month.

65% of our parts are longer than 2.5 meters.

Longest pieces machined or treated at the moment: 13,080 meters.

The percentage of the weight of the final piece with respect to the blank is 5%, so we generate chips from 95% of the raw material we buy.

Parts machined by AMT that we are currently delivering to Aernnova: spares and skins of the horizontal and vertical stabilizer of E1 and E2, panels in peen forming and frames of beluga WP50 60 70, ribs of the central box of A220, and several others to which we only perform surface processes such as Creuzet stringers.

Our Customers: 27 customers in different parts of the world, such as Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Brazil, USA, Tunisia, Morocco.

Top 5 customers: Aernnova, Pilatus, Airbus, Asco and Dassault, representing 80% of our annual turnover. Aernnova represents 38% of the turnover.

Strengths of Aerometallic Tarazona

Our customers recognize us for the high flexibility of our processes, but above all for our high level of commitment to delivery dates, even when many of these are below our lead time set by contract. On average, our lead time for final processes is around 7 working days.

Our OTD lead time for complete processes, machining + treatment, for the last 5 years has been 99.7%.

Our facilities, recently expanded in the treatment part, offer the possibility of integrating machining, forming, shot peening, treatment and small assemblies in the same point. This gives our customers great possibilities to reduce inventories by significantly reducing lead time compared to other competitors.

Human Team

Aerometallic Tarazona currently has a staff of 190 people. Nearly half of the staff has more than 19 years of experience, while our current average age of the staff is only 41 years old.

Qualified and certified to meet the needs of our customers, we require a high level of flexibility and training, being an arduous task to maintain the certifications of all our customers to highlight, Airbus, Bombardier, Embraer, ADS, Pilatus, Dassault, Safrán, Fokker, IAI, Gulf Stream.

Future

Our biggest challenge, now more than ever, will be to continue to maintain our current panel of customers, despite the significant cost impact we are all suffering, without worsening our level of deliveries.
