Aernnova Mexico, initiatives against climate change

In 2024, Mexico was at a medium level in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI).

According to data from the United Nations, every year greenhouse gas emissions increase and therefore climate change evolves at a much faster rate than expected. At Aernnova Mexico we are actively committed to contributing to the fight against climate change by developing sustainability projects that favor the reduction of natural resource consumption, waste reduction and, as a result, the reduction of our carbon footprint:

Manufacture of returnable packaging:

Previously, cardboard boxes were used and, once used, were discarded. This not only generated unnecessary costs but also contributed to the felling of trees. Today, materials are shipped in returnable wooden boxes, which reduces the environmental impact and optimizes resources.

Reuse of sealant cartridges:

This project helped the company to significantly reduce the consumption of cartridges made from petroleum derivatives, since the cartridge was single-use and, once the sealant was used, the container was discarded and now they are reused.

Reuse of yellow wipes:

The project was carried out with the yellow cloths used in the painting and structure processes to clean the assemblies. Once they can no longer be used by the process, instead of being discarded, they are placed in the container designed for their collection, so that the other areas can take them from the collection point. With this project we managed to reuse 8 kilos of wipes monthly.

Wypall Usage Optimization:

In 2024, training was conducted on the responsible use and care of Wypall, with the objective of standardizing its application in the Structures assembly area. This initiative not only optimized its use but also promoted environmental awareness and a culture of recycling within the team. Thanks to this effort, a saving of 20 rolls per month was achieved, which would represent US$ 2,200 over the year.

Use of rigid glass (PPS):

The use of disposable PPS cups implied a high consumption of resources and the generation of large amounts of hazardous waste. By implementing the use of reusable rigid aluminum or plastic cups, a 91% savings in consumables was achieved compared to the year 2023.

In addition, we had improvement ideas that were implemented through the IDEM channel, which generated a positive impact on the environment:

1.Reduction of employee bus lines. One of the main CO2 emitters is the burning of fossil fuels, as is the case with buses, which, by using diesel, generate CO2 during their operation. Following an improvement analysis, the itineraries of the transportation routes were optimized, resulting in a reduction of 2.8 tons of CO2.

2.Other improvements implemented include the identification of the floor and the use of hanging signs made of recoverable materials, which saved paper in labeling, and the incorporation of an ion exchange surface treatment tank, which contributed to the reduction of water consumption. In addition, the company implemented the lamination of traveling formats for reuse, thus avoiding unnecessary printing of documents.

Thanks to these initiatives, we managed to reduce a total of 12,726 kg of CO₂, which is equivalent to the work of 509 trees in absorbing this gas.

These efforts reflect Aernnova Mexico’s firm commitment to sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of our operations. The implementation of projects focused on reuse, resource optimization, and CO2 emissions reduction achieved a reduction of more than 12,726 kilograms of CO2, equivalent to the work of 509 trees absorbing these gases, demonstrating the tangible impact of our actions on the environment.

We will continue to promote innovative strategies that allow us to optimize the use of resources. The collaboration of our team and our commitment to continuous improvement will be key to continuing to lead initiatives that contribute to the well-being of the planet and a more sustainable future.
