The novel Flap R&T project has been enabled through the extensive efforts of a large multidisciplinary team. This has resulted in the manufacture of the prototype that has been delivered. The novel features of this component are as follows:

-An 8-metres-long, high-lift moveable composite box, with a high level of integration. Manufactured in a single cycle (One-shot).

-This was monitored via sensors, data analysis and real-time action (SMART PROCESS), throughout the production chain from the elementary piece to assembly.

-Reduction of waste of material, energy and pollutants in the manufacturing process.

-Reduction in the number of parts to be assembled, improving lead time and thus enabling high-speed manufacturing.

-Development of new technologies in the design and training phase, prior to production. This was achieved through the use of Virtual Reality and manufacture of full-scale models in 3D printing.

-The qualification at Aernnova of the “one-step” drilling operation for drilling processes of dissimilar materials and countersinking of new composite materials.

-Aernnova developments in one-step operation for drilling and countersinking processes for new composite laminates and dissimilar materials.

These new technologies and processes allow us to create a component that is a step change from current conventional products. This allows Aernnova to supply competitive parts and assemblies to our customers for future aircraft innovations.
