In 2023, the rate of workplace injuries to the upper and lower extremities of Aernnova Composites employees working in the shop floor increased. The characteristics of many of our day-to-day activities involve a high level of demand for these extremities, so we consider focusing on prevention.
These types of injuries are mainly caused by musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). MSDs occur when body structures such as muscles, tendons, nerves, etc. deteriorate as a result of forced postures and repetitive movements.
Aernnova Composites Illescas (ACI) has developed a healthy habits project led by the H&S department, with the collaboration of the company´s physiotherapy staff, with which we want to help prevent MSDs of these extremities, identifying musculoskeletal risk factors in the workplace from an ergonomic perspective, in order to avoid their appearance and progression.
Based on the table of occupational diseases in R.D.1299/2006 of the Spanish Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the movements and postures that increase the risk of MSDs and, subsequently, of occupational diseases are listed, grouping them into three systems: shoulder, elbow, forearm and hand, wrist and fingers. As a complement to “traditional” preventive measures, warm-up exercises (before work) are intended to improve the worker’s physical condition and relieve those parts of the musculoskeletal system that are most overloaded, as a strategy to increase resistance to locomotive system disorders.
In line with Aernnova’s commitment to promote healthy habits in the workplace, we have started with Area AG4 – Warehouse and Procurement, in order to implement it in the rest of the areas of the Plant to improve the physical condition of its workers, with the responsibility of reducing MSDs and associated occupational diseases.
We encourage you to follow the example.
